China Campaign

china_murray2The 2008 Summer Olympics will take place from 8-24 August in Beijing and will provide China with a unique opportunity to demonstrate its commitment to human rights. World Day Against the Death Penalty - Essay Contest

In recognition of this October’s World Day against the Death Penalty, the WA Branch of Amnesty International Australia is holding an essay writing contest for high school students.

The World Day against the Death Penalty takes place annually on 10 October 2008 and is organized by the World Coalition against the Death Penalty (WCADP), of which Amnesty International is a member.

Essay topic: Select one of the six countries – India, South Korea, Taiwan, Japan, Pakistan or Vietnam – of focus in this year’s WCACP World Day against the Death Penalty campaign. Describe the current and historical status and application of the death penalty (in the selected country) and compare this to international trends in the use of the death penalty.
